Memorial boards going fast

The Bluebird Day Fund has once again come up with another brilliant fundraising idea: a customized snowboard for a cause.

Vancouver-based Endeavor Snowboards Inc, in conjunction with Oronge Board Shop and the Bluebird Day Fund are creating 50 custom 159 centimetre High Five boards with a special custom graphic created by local artist Ben Morris. The snowboards are a tribute to the late local snowboarder Bryn Taylor, whom the Bluebird Day Fund was created in name of and who passed away in a car accident in 2006.

The High Five snowboards are one of Endeavor's best terrain park boards and according to Alecia Moser, who's taking care of the payments for the boards, over 15 have already been sold. Terry Taylor, Bryn's mother and one of the founders of the Bluebird Day Fund, says the idea to work with Endeavor Snowboards was fitting because of her son's previous involvement with the company, and the proceeds from the snowboards go towards the Bluebird Day Fund.

"In exchange for a $500 donation we'll give you a snowboard," she says, adding there's a $50 holding fee to purchase a snowboard and they're expected to be available to take home in October.

Max Jenke, managing director of Endeavor Snowboards Inc. says Endeavor was more than happy to collaborate on the project.

"We're honoured to be asked to use one of our boards, the High Five 159, as the board dedicated to the charity," he says. "The Bluebird Day Fund wanted a product that represented the sport Bryn loved."

The Bluebird Day Fund has sent aspiring snowboarders to camps in Whistler from the proceeds of donations and also donated both the wall ride and the flat-down-flat box to the Sundance Terrain Park. The recent donation of $250 from Andrew Singleton, who organizes the You Look Good Riders Cup events, may add to the possibility, Taylor hints, that the Bluebird Day Fund will be sending two lucky riders to a snowboard camp this summer. Anyone interested in attending a camp can find an application form online at www.sunpeaksresort.com or pick one up at Oronge Board Shop in Kamloops.
