POSTED: Nov. 17, 2008 John Sternig elected as new Area P director
With 292 votes more than his opponent, John Sternig won the seat for Area P representation in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) elections held over the weekend. On Nov. 15, TNRD Election Day, Sternig got a total of 430 votes while former Area P representative Grant Fraser received 138 votes. "I feel great," said the newly elected director. "I'm not sworn in yet, but I'm already working as a prospective director." Sternig will be inaugurated to the TNRD board on Dec. 4. "I really thank everyone in the community for their support," said Sternig. "It's very important that I hear the concerns of various communities so that, not only do I work on my platform, but I add to the issues that need to be worked on and brought before the board." A Heffley resident, Sternig said his main focus will be on improving fiscal responsibility combined with formulating and delivering cost-effective programs and services. For waste management in Sun Peaks and the surrounding areas, he plans on initiating improvements, including the feasibility of adding a compactor and fencing, to the transfer station and finding an alternative to tipping fees. According to the 2008 TNRD preliminary election votes, there was a total of 569 voters that came out to the polls, including one rejected vote. The Rivershore Golf Club was the polling station in the area that had the most voter turnout, registering 149 voters in total. Sun Peaks is included in electoral area P, along with Heffley Creek, Heffley Lake, Whitecroft, Pinantan Lake, Paul Lake, McLure and Vinsulla. |
