POSTED: 16 October, 2009 Be wary of counterfeit bills, credit cards
Be wary of counterfeit bills, credit cards Kamloops police have received reports on fake bills and credit cards recently, and they're asking business owners to be on the lookout lest they become a target. On Oct. 10, the Kamloops RCMP received several reports of fake credit cards that were used in local businesses, one of which suffered from a fraudulent purchase in the multiple thousand dollar range. The cloned credit cards were in the name of Brad Ross and had the appearance of a President's Choice credit card and a Royal Bank Visa card. At another mall, a group tried to get six credit cards to work, so the store immediately notified the Loss Prevention Officer. It was reported that the group had a stack of credit cards with them. "Anyone making purchases in this (manner) should be asked for identification and the local detachment should be alerted," said Kamloops RCMP's Sgt. Doug Aird. Police will look into video surveillance to try to identify the suspects. Kamloops RCMP has also reported receiving fake $50 American bills. The police suspects there could still be remainders of the counterfeits in circulation and warns local businesses to be aware. The serial number is TD23702307A. The bill's colour resembles the original, however, the paper quality is poor and tears and smudges easily.
