Drivers urged to clear the way

The Ministry of Transportation has put into effect a no parking regulation in the village at Sun Peaks—starting immediately.

“No Parking” zones have been established on Creekside Way and Village Drive to prevent people illegally parking their vehicles there during the busy winter season. Vehicles carelessly parked or left in designated ‘No Parking’ zones will be impounded in the vehicle compound opposite to the Sun Peaks Fire Hall.

Bill Stoner, fire chief for Sun Peaks Fire Rescue claims parking on the side of these roads, now designated as no parking zones, is unsafe. Creekside Way and Village Way, he says are main thoroughfares and clogging them up means emergency vehicles are unable to pass through.

Hubert Puetz, owner of EP Towing, who will be patrolling the resort daily, says parking restrictions were in place at Sun Peaks last year but were not enforced by the Fire Chief. The difference this year is once a vehicle is found violating the no parking zones, Puetz will act and owners will face a cost upwards of $150 to retrieve their cars.

Parking illegally on the streets and blocking fire trucks is an emergency safety issue he says, pointing out it’s a catastrophe waiting to happen.

Christopher Nicolson, President of Tourism Sun Peaks, warns there will be no exceptions to the rule, parking regulations this winter at Sun Peaks must be adhered to.

“This will be strictly enforced and vehicles will be towed immediately,” he says.

EP Towing will be available 24 hours-a-day, but regular hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information or to get your vehicle back contact 250-318-1835.
