Find your path

SEPTEMBER 2006 — VOLUME 4 ISSUE 9

Desperate to find that ultimate hiking trail in the Rockies, or the sweetest kayaking adventure around Cape Scott, but don’t know where to look? Fear not, outdoor enthusiasts, www.trailpeak.com is here to help put you on the trail to the perfect adventure.

Trailpeak.com is a collection of the best adventure trails throughout Canada. Launched in 2001, the user-driven site now receives over 100,000 hits every month and includes more than 3,000 trails online for hiking, climbing, paddling and other activities. The site claims to have the largest collection of Rocky Mountain trail maps anywhere on the web or in print and is endorsed by Canadian adventure equipment retailer Mountain Equipment Co-op as a reliable source of free trail information.

Because www.trailpeak.com is a community-oriented site it’s constantly evolving, with new trails being added all the time. One of the big draws for users is that access to trail maps and information is free as long as users share information with others.

The website itself is appreciated by the adventure community for its clean look and easy use. The site’s home page allows viewers to select the type of activity they wish to participate in, and from there leads to information on available trails. Trails are currently divided into three categories—land, water and snow—with three more subcategories in each. Once the type of activity is selected, trails can be searched by name, region or level of difficulty. Each trail has its own page with a plethora of information. General directions, a difficulty rating, trail length and approximate completion time, as well as recent reviews of the trail are just some of the features users will enjoy. Users will also find gear reviews, links to equipment distributors, information on GPS navigation classes and more.

Add to the trails database, plan your adventure, or just dream about the next one—whatever you want to do, a visit to www.trailpeak.com will help you do it.
