Coats for Kids campaign

OCTOBER 2006 — VOLUME 4 ISSUE 10

With winter fast approaching many residents of the Sun Peaks area are thinking about snow, getting the board or skis out of the closet and looking for that new ski outfit to hit the slopes in style.

If this sounds like you, there’s an organization here that can use your help. During the month of October, Mountain Water Works Ltd., Sun Peaks Fire Rescue and Sun Peaks Independent News Inc. are organizing the first annual Sun Peaks Coats for Kids campaign in an effort to help needy kids and families in the Kamloops region stay warm this winter.

Sun Peaks Coats for Kids is asking all area residents to empty their closets of unused ski jackets and pants and make a difference to those less fortunate.

The idea of Sun Peaks Coats for Kids was hatched by Mountain Water Works owner and volunteer firefighter Dan Stebner after hearing about a similar campaign in Kamloops.

“It just came to me that we live in a community with lots of winter coats. Everyone seems to need a new one every year and they just pile up. I think with the community’s help we can have the best-dressed needy folks around,” said Stebner.

The coats and pants collected will be sorted, packed and delivered to families in the Kamloops area during the first week of November.

Sun Peaks Coats for Kids asks that you donate only functional clothing that is clean or can be cleaned. Items can be dropped off at the Sun Peaks Laundromat located in the Little Shuswap Lodge (Burfield Staff Housing) between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. or call 250-319-1269 for pick-up (Sun Peaks only).

If you have a closet full of winter wear, think about donating it and keep someone warm this winter.
