No attendance, no comment

It's early Saturday morning April 5 and I've had a very long and busy winter. I'm on the phone trying to convince my good friend Adam that I just don't have the energy to attend the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Improvement District (SPMRID) Annual General Meeting (AGM) being held that day. I was looking for support when he reminded me that it was my choice but if I didn't attend he didn't want to hear me bitch or complain about anything community related for one full calendar year. As that would be nearly impossible, I attended the AGM.

Well the old saying of "complacency kills" couldn't have rung more true. Present was a small but mighty showing of truly concerned residents, a dedicated, time-trusted, reliable and exemplary board of SPMRID Trustees followed by an excellent presentation by our local fire chief Bill Stoner. Last but not least was the always riveting annual financial report from the auditors.

My point is that as the population of our community grows so should the presence at these types of meetings. If there are issues present lets all feel obliged to assemble in a forum that creates resolve and change, not just he-said, she-said idle coffee shop chatter.

To all that attended the SPMRID-AGM cheers, to the rest of the community, we'll see you next year.
